The Mount M’Goun Summit & Gorges Traverse – 5 Days
Azul (Hello), and welcome to the High Atlas! Get ready for an unforgettable journey to Mount M’Goun, one of Morocco’s most spectacular mountain peaks, rising to approximately 4,071 metres.
This challenging trek takes you deep into the heart of the Central High Atlas, beginning in the peaceful Ait Bouguemez Valley, known as the “Happy Valley.” Here, traditional Amazigh villages, green terraces, walnut groves, and mud brick houses create an authentic mountain atmosphere far from the busy tourist routes.
Over the following days, you’ll trek through remote mountain landscapes towards the M’Goun massif, climb to the summit for breathtaking panoramic views, and then descend through the spectacular M’Goun Valley and its dramatic gorges.
Along the way, you’ll experience warm Amazigh hospitality, enjoy traditional Moroccan meals, stay in mountain guesthouses and camps, and discover the culture and daily life of communities living among the High Atlas peaks.

Itinerary
Day 1: Day 1: Marrakech – Azilal – Tizi n’Tirghist – Ait Bouguemez Valley
Salaam Alaikum, and welcome to your High Atlas adventure! Depart from Marrakech and drive towards Azilal, gradually entering the spectacular landscapes of the Central High Atlas.
Continue your journey through the mountains and cross the scenic Tizi n’Tirghist pass, with breathtaking views over the surrounding valleys and peaks. From the pass, continue towards Ait Bouguemez, the famous “Happy Valley,” where traditional Amazigh villages, green terraces, and walnut groves unfold beneath the mountains.
Arrive in the valley and settle into your guesthouse. Take time to relax and meet your local hosts over traditional Moroccan mint tea.
In the evening, enjoy a delicious home-cooked Amazigh dinner, with traditional dishes such as tagine and couscous, and experience the warm hospitality of the High Atlas.

Day 2: Ait Bouguemez – Ikiss Gorges – Talekdit Plateau
After an early breakfast, begin your trek at around 7:00 AM towards the spectacular Ikiss Gorges.
Follow the mountain trail through the rugged landscapes of the Central High Atlas, surrounded by dramatic cliffs, remote valleys, and impressive mountain scenery.
Continue towards the Talekdit Plateau, gradually gaining altitude as you approach the high mountain landscapes around Mount Magoun.
Arrive at the plateau and settle into your mountain camp. Enjoy a traditional meal and take some time to rest and prepare for the early-morning ascent of Mount Magoun.

Day 3: Talekdit Plateau – Magoun Summit – Igli Ntnwot
The adventure begins before sunrise. Around 3:00 AM, start the ascent towards the summit of Mount Magoun under the early morning sky.
Follow your local mountain guide through the high-altitude terrain as the first light begins to appear over the Atlas Mountains. The climb is challenging, but reaching the summit offers an unforgettable reward.
Reach the summit of Mount Magoun at approximately 4,071 metres and enjoy spectacular panoramic views across the Central High Atlas.
After spending some time at the summit, begin your descent towards Igli Ntnwot. Stop there for lunch and take time to rest after the demanding summit climb.
Continue to your accommodation and enjoy a well-deserved evening surrounded by the peaceful mountain landscape.

Day 4: Igli Ntnwot – Tabant – Guesthouse – Relaxation
After breakfast, leave Igli Ntnwot and travel back towards Tabant by vehicle.
Return to your guesthouse in Ait Bouguemez Valley and enjoy a relaxed day after the challenging mountain trek.
Take the day to rest, enjoy the peaceful surroundings of the valley, have a traditional Moroccan meal, or simply relax at the guesthouse and take in the views of the High Atlas.
This is your chance to slow down, recover, and enjoy the hospitality of your local hosts before your journey back to Marrakech.

Day 5: Ait Bouguemez Valley – Marrakech
After breakfast, say goodbye to your hosts and begin your journey back to Marrakech.
Travel through the beautiful High Atlas landscapes, enjoying the final views of the mountains and valleys along the way.
Continue towards Marrakech, arriving in the city and bringing your Mount Magoun Summit & Gorges Traverse adventure to an end.
